A Panel Discussion on January 19, 2024, hosted by the Warren B. Rudman Center for Justice, Leadership & Public Service at the UNH Franklin Pierce School of Law

In its most recent annual report on the nation’s fiscal health, the Government Accountability Office issued this warning: “The federal government faces an unsustainable long-term fiscal future.”  Join The Concord Coalition and the Bipartisan Policy Center on January 19, 2024, 12:00 – 1:30 PM, for a discussion on the fiscal future, including challenges facing the next administration, such as the rising national debt, Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, taxes, general government spending, and more.  The event will feature Concord Coalition Executive Director Bob Bixby and Rachel Snyderman, Director of Economic Policy at the Bipartisan Policy Center.

Following the presentation, attendees will have the chance to participate in a Q&A moderated by Laura Knoy, the Rudman Center’s interim director. Lunch will be provided.  Registration is required. Please register by January 17.  A Zoom link will be available for those who cannot attend in person.

Panelists:

Bob Bixby

Robert L. Bixby is executive director of The Concord Coalition, a nonpartisan organization that encourages fiscal responsibility in Washington and helps educate the public about the federal budget and the need to protect our children and future generations from excessive government debt. Bixby frequently speaks around the country on the nation’s fiscal challenges and possible bipartisan solutions, including greater government efficiency, tax reform and improvements in the entitlement program. He has testified at congressional hearings and been interviewed by news organizations around the country. Bixby has appeared on ABC, NBC, CBS, PBS, CNN and Fox News.

 

 

 

Rachel Snyderman

Rachel Snyderman serves as the Director of Economic Policy at the Bipartisan Policy Center. Her work is regularly featured in major media outlets, including the New York Times, the Washington Post, and the Wall Street Journal. Snyderman joined BPC following federal service with the Millennium Challenge Corporation, the Department of Commerce, and the Office of Management and Budget. She also spent time abroad with the U.S. government, Innovations for Poverty Action, and the Mexican Ministry of Finance. Earlier in her career, Snyderman worked for EY’s Quantitative Economics and Statistics practice in Washington, DC.

 

 

Moderators:

Laura Knoy

Laura Knoy is the founding host of New Hampshire Public Radio’s “The Exchange,” a live daily call-in program which ran for 25 years. During that time, Knoy interviewed dozens of presidential candidates, hosted numerous political debates and NHPR’s election night coverage. She moderated thousands of conversations about important topics including education, the economy, and the environment. Knoy stepped down from the show in 2021 and is a sought-after speaker, moderator, interviewer and narrator. In the fall of 2022, she joined the Rudman Center at UNH-Franklin Pierce School of Law as Director of Community Engagement.  She is serving as interim director of the Rudman Center during the spring of 2024.

 

 

 

The January 19 event at the Rudman Center is one of three conversations on the topic of federal fiscal challenges to be held during the month of January, including on January 9 at the University of New Hampshire Peter T. Paul College of Business and Economics and on January 10 at Dartmouth College.
