On the latest Facing the Future, I was joined by Concord Coalition Executive Director, Robert L. Bixby, Concord’s Policy Director, Tori Gorman, Concord’s National Field Director, Phil Smith, and Director of Health Policy for the Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget, Josh Gordon. We discussed COVID relief, PAYGO, sequestration, infrastructure investment, CRFB’s Health Savers Initiative, and more.

[Note: Portions of this week's Facing the Future can be seen in the video clips posted below.]

Gordon explained what the Health Savers Initiative is, provided details on proposals within it, and highlighted the project’s importance.

“I think it’s important because, as I hope your listeners know, health care costs and their growth over time are going to be a major contributor to the federal budget challenge,” Gordon said. “And what we thought we would do with the Health Savers Initiative is find a way to bridge really good ideas in the think tank world and health policy research around the country with Capitol Hill. One of the ways we think we can do that is by scoring some of the really good ideas that are out there.”

The first three papers published as part of the project focus on potential cost savings from site-neutral payment reform within Medicare, reducing Medicare Advantage overpayments and capping hospital pricing.

Smith, Bixby, and Gorman joined me to discuss recent developments related to sequestration and some new things on the horizon for Facing the Future, including the fact that I will be handing the reins over to Bixby as the new host of the show. I have accepted a new position and will no longer be a Concord Coalition staff member, however, I will remain as a volunteer Fiscal Lookout and stay involved with the organization’s grassroots activities.
