CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – North Carolina residents will have the opportunity on Wednesday, March 31, to hear national experts discuss solutions to massive government deficits and funding problems in the big federal entitlement programs.

Former Federal Reserve Board Vice Chair Alice Rivlin will be among the panelists at “Fixing Our Fiscal Future,” a public event that will be held at 5:30 p.m. on the campus of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

The program, free and open to the public, will be held at the Kenan-Flagler Business School’s Maurice J. Koury Auditorium. The event is being co-hosted by the Frank Hawkins Kenan Institute of Private Enterprise and The Concord Coalition.

The panelists:

  • Alice Rivlin, who also served as the first director of the Congressional Budget Office and as the director of the Office of Management and Budget in the Clinton administration.
  • Robert L. Bixby, executive director of The Concord Coalition.
  • J. Alexander McMillan, former U.S. Representative from North Carolina’s 9th District.
  • Stefan Byrd-Krueger, youth outreach coordinator for The Concord Coalition.

Although the program is free, reservations are appreciated. Details and a link to make reservations are at www.kenaninstitute.unc.edu/deficit. A reception will follow the program.

“Current U.S. fiscal policy is not sustainable,” Kenan Institute Director John D. Kasarda said. “Future generations face dire consequences if we fail to make serious changes in spending, taxation and debt – sooner, rather than later. We encourage students, in particular, to attend this event and contribute their ideas. Their futures will be profoundly affected by our nation’s response to this pressing issue.”
