Former U.S. Comptroller General David Walker to Speak on Nation's Budget Challenges and the 2016 Presidential Campaign

DES MOINES — Fiscal reform advocate David Walker will speak at a forum tomorrow in Des Moines on the national debt and the need for leadership on federal budget issues by the next president.

Walker, former U.S. comptroller general and head of the Government Accountability Office, will provide an in-depth analysis of the nation’s fiscal and economic challenges, and why the 2016 presidential candidates should address them. He will also discuss why investors should care about current and future federal budgetary pressures and related public policies.  

DES MOINES — Fiscal reform advocate David Walker will speak at a forum tomorrow in Des Moines on the national debt and the need for leadership on federal budget issues by the next president.

Walker, former U.S. comptroller general and head of the Government Accountability Office, will provide an in-depth analysis of the nation’s fiscal and economic challenges, and why the 2016 presidential candidates should address them. He will also discuss why investors should care about current and future federal budgetary pressures and related public policies.  

This forum will also feature nationally recognized polling expert Ann Selzer, who will share her organization’s findings about today’s voters and what the polls are saying about federal budget concerns and other issues in the presidential campaign.

Tomorrow’s program will be held at the Des Moines Botanical Gardens. Walker’s presentation will begin at 3 p.m., followed by Selzer at 4 p.m. and a reception at 5 p.m.

This program is hosted by the Foster Group, a local financial services and management firm, in partnership with First Budget, which is a joint non-partisan initiative by Fix the Debt and The Concord Coalition to raise public awareness of the nation’s fiscal challenges and to encourage the 2016 presidential candidates to address them.

SPEAKERS:

David Walker currently serves as the first Senior Strategic Advisor for the Global Public Sector Practice at PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC). He is a well-recognized expert in fiscal responsibility and accountability, government transformation and retirement security. Walker served as comptroller general of the United States and head of the U.S. Government Accountability Office for almost 10 years. He also served as the first chairman of the United Nations Independent Audit Advisory Committee for four years.

Ann Selzer conducts the Bloomberg Global Poll and the Bloomberg Politics National Poll. Her work for the prestigious Iowa Poll earned the Gallup Award for Outstanding Poll Reporting for The Des Moines Register. Her firm, Selzer & Company, was awarded one of three A+ ratings (out of over 300 firms analyzed) by FiveThirtyEight.com. She has appeared on many different news outlets, including CBS, MSNBC, PBS, CNN, the BBC and National Public Radio. Selzer earned a doctorate in communication theory and research from the University of Iowa.
