COALITION TO RUN FULL PAGE ADS ADDRESSING QUESTIONS ON ENTITLEMENTS CLINTON AND DOLE HAVE BEEN UNWILLING TO ANSWER

WASHINGTON — The Concord Coalition will run full-page advertisements in the New York Times and San Diego Union Tribune prior to next Wednesday’s presidential debate highlighting “six questions that citizens should ask — and insist the candidates answer.”

The questions, which focus on “America’s coming Age Wave” and the unsustainable path of our largest entitlement programs — Social Security and Medicare — are meant to focus more attention on an issue that both candidates have been unwilling to address. The ad will appear in the Times on Tuesday, October 15, and in the Union Tribune on Wednesday, October 16, the day of the debate in San Diego. The ad is signed by Concord Coalition founders Paul Tsongas, Warren Rudman, and Pete Peterson.

“With all due respect to all the fine rhetoric about building bridges to the past and to the future, these bridges will collapse unless our leaders are willing to confront these questions honestly,” the ad states. “The demographic time bomb is set to explode in the 21st Century, rocking the economy, American lifestyles, and the American Dream itself. The public deserves to hear the candidates views on these critical issues.”

The Concord Coalition was founded in 1992 by former Senators Rudman (R-N.H.) and Tsongas (D-Mass.), and former Secretary of Commerce Peterson. The Coalition has more than 170,000 members nationwide, and grassroots chapters in each state and most Congressional districts.
