“In 2004, Presidential candidates will face a national debt that exceeds $7
trillion and deficits for as far as the eye can see. Too often candidates lament
the growing national debt in harsh terms but fail to say what they would do
about it. Voters should not let them get away with it. The Concord Coalition’s
National Debt Clock allows citizens to see first-hand exactly how big the
national debt is and how fast it is growing. Its rapidly escalating numbers are
a vivid reminder that our failure to make hard choices between new spending and
tax cuts is creating a generationally irresponsible debt burden for our children
and grandchildren. We hope the Debt Clock will encourage voters to ask tough
questions and force candidates to tell voters exactly how they will address this
challenge if elected, ” said Executive Director Robert Bixby.
