During the most recent Facing the Future, Ben Ritz, director of the Progressive Policy Institute’s Center for Funding America’s Future, joined me to discuss PPI’s latest policy proposal, “A Progressive Budget for Equitable Growth.” The blueprint addresses a variety of issues, such as the national debt, taxes, health care, infrastructure, climate change and more.

“The federal budget is too focused on consumption by the current generation and not enough on investment in the next,” Ritz said. “We wanted to show what it would be like to put together a budget that funds these … public investments … but at the same time did so in a fiscally responsible way so that they could be sustainable for the long-term.”

“Our plan is a little bit different than some of the deficit reduction proposals you’ve seen over the past decade,” he said.”We tried to think outside the box and put out some really new ideas, some that are more ambitious that maybe are a little more politically difficult but at the same time would go further in making our federal budget more investment focused.”
