BUDGET EXERCISES

HELP YOUR COMMUNITY

UNDERSTAND THE IMPORTANCE AND COMPLEXITIES OF BALANCING THE FEDERAL BUDGET

Imagine a meeting where your community comes together to solve problems and tackle some of our toughest challenges. It’s closer than you think! The Concord Coalition has brought this experience to colleges, universities, community organizations, and congressional town halls across the country.

Phil Fiscal Challenge 2

How it works

These community budget workshops are often attended by hundreds at a time. We divide participants into groups of five to ten to review current spending and revenue levels and discuss policies that will impact the Congressional Budget Office’s ten year projected federal budget deficit.

Each group makes recommendations for their budget, weighing the policy impact, economic consequences, and the political implications. Then, we facilitate a wrap-up discussion of the results and the opportunity for participants to describe their choices.
