First Budget, a nonpartisan effort to raise awareness of the nation’s fiscal challenges during the 2016 presidential campaign, is already making its presence felt in Iowa and New Hampshire.

A joint initiative of The Concord Coalition and the Campaign to Fix the Debt, First Budget recently announced Cabinets in both states that include Democrats and Republicans, congressmen and state lawmakers, local business and civic leaders.

In addition, new videos feature citizens in Iowa and New Hampshire discussing the debt and what they want to hear from candidates.

“Shortly after taking office, the next president will present Congress with his or her first budget,” says Robert L. Bixby, Concord’s executive director. “Given the country’s huge fiscal and economic challenges, it is critical that the new administration has a mandate to put us on a more responsible and sustainable path. The First Budget initiative is working to make sure that happens by asking the presidential candidates what specific steps they plan to take.”

The Cabinet announcements and videos follow numerous events in both states in the last few months. These include programs on college campuses and budget exercises that provide the participants with a close look at the tough choices facing the country.
