Concord Coalition Says Social Security and Medicare Trustees Report Shows the Need For Resumed Budget Negotiations
WASHINGTON -- With today’s Social Security and Medicare Trustees Report showing the growing strain the two programs will have on general revenues in the years ahead, The Concord Coalition strongly urged lawmakers to resume negotiations on a long-term fiscal sustainability plan through the regular order of the budget process.
WASHINGTON -- With today’s updated numbers from the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) showing a decline in projected budget deficits, The Concord Coalition warned lawmakers not to be lulled into a false sense of security that the fiscal status quo is sustainable.
WASHINGTON -- The Concord Coalition said today that President Obama’s proposed budget for Fiscal Year 2014 provides a credible framework for the bipartisan negotiations that are needed to curb the growth of the federal debt over the next decade and beyond. Congress should consider the President’s proposals through a House-Senate conference committee as it works on a joint budget resolution.
