The Concord Coalition Announces Youth Advisory Board

Press Release
Friday, December 11, 2009

WASHINGTON -- The Concord Coalition today announced plans to form a Youth Advisory Board to help young people around the country become more engaged in pushing for responsible fiscal policies.

The board will support The Concord Coalition's grassroots efforts, advising it on the development of educational programs and helping to coordinate Concord's field operations with the efforts of a growing number of youth organizations interested in advocating for a secure fiscal and economic future.

Board members will speak at Concord Coalition events about the federal budget's impact on the quality of life for future generations.

"In light of record deficits and mounting federal debt, young Americans understand that current policies are unsustainable, and are ready to become stewards of our nation's fiscal future," said Stefan Byrd-Krueger, youth outreach coordinator for Concord.

The announcement of the new advisory board comes a few days after Concord's National Conference on Fiscal Stewardship in Washington. The conference brought together community leaders and other citizens who are members of six fiscal advisory councils around the country that were formed under Concord's leadership.

Luke Repici, a member of the Fiscal Advisory Committee of Philadelphia, will serve as the first chairman of the Youth Advisory Board. As president and co-founder of the Association of Young Americans, Repici brings extensive policy expertise and a familiarity with non-profit youth engagement organizations.

"As a nation, our present course promises to leave young Americans and future generations of Americans with an enormous debt which they had no role in creating. The board will be a hub for all young Americans interested in steering our government towards a sustainable fiscal course," said Mr. Repici.

The Youth Advisory Board will be composed of representatives from organizations that have worked with Concord in the past. The board will be open to any other organizations that represent the interests of young Americans in achieving federal fiscal responsibility.
