The Concord Coalition Executive Director Bob Bixby joins WHO Radio 1040 host Simon Conway to discuss the national debt recently topping $20 trillion and why no one is talking about it.
While discussing our nation's fiscal challenges, Bixby addressed whether our national debt is close to hitting its "tipping point" and just how much debt is too high.
"The best way to look at it is the debt as a percentage of the economy...Debt has grown to about 77 percent of the economy, from an average of 40 percent," Bixby said. "We are at a historical post-World War II high. No one knows what the tipping point is. The higher it gets as a percentage of the economy, the more danger you have. My thought about that is I don't know exactly where the tipping point is, but I don't want to get close to it."
