Iowa State University hosts Fiscal Solutions Tour

David Walker was U.S. comptroller general, one of his three presidential appointments from 3 different presidents. He became president and CEO of The Peter G. Peterson Foundation in 2008, where he is working to promote federal financial responsibility.  He left in 2010 to become President and Chief Executive Officer of the Comeback America Initiative (CAI)  focused on promoting and achieving specific fiscal solutions.   CAI received a three-year grant from PGPF to engage the public and promote fiscal solutions, including those outlined in Walker’s book, Comeback America: Turning the Country Around and Restoring Fiscal Responsibility.   Robert L. Bixby is Executive Director of The Concord Coalition, a nonpartisan, grassroots organization dedicated to fiscal responsibility.The Concord Coalition was founded in 1992 by former U.S. Senators Warren Rudman (R-NH) and the late Paul Tsongas (D-MA). Former Senator Bob Kerrey (D-NE) now serves as Co-Chair of the organization. Mr. Bixby has a bachelor's degree in political science from American University in Washington, D.C., a juris doctorate from George Mason University School of Law in Arlington, Va., and a master's degree in public administration from the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University. Prior to his work with the Concord Coalition Mr. Bixby practiced law and served as the Chief Staff Attorney of the Court of Appeals of Virginia.

Robert Bixby, executive director - The Concord Coalition, and David Walker, executive director - Comeback America Initiative and former Comptroller General of the U.S., will present on the long-term fiscal challenges facing America and the possible solutions to improve our fiscal outlook.  These national experts will discuss the wide range of options for putting the country on a more prudent and sustainable fiscal path in the next decade and beyond. These options will include possible defense and non-defense spending cuts, Social Security reforms, improvements in the health care system, tax reforms and tough budget controls.

 

This Fiscal Solutions Tour is part of the on-going programming of the Iowa State University Lecture Series.

Robert L. Bixby is executive director of The Concord Coalition, a nonpartisan organization that encourages fiscal responsibility in Washington and helps educate the public about the federal budget and the need to protect our children and future generations from excessive government debt.

Bixby joined Concord in 1992 and served in several positions, including policy director and national field director, before being named executive director in 1999. He has served as a member of the Bipartisan Policy Center’s Debt Reduction Task Force (the Domenici-Rivlin commission), which produced a model plan for comprehensive fiscal reform.

He frequently speaks around the country on the nation’s fiscal challenges and possible bipartisan solutions, including greater government efficiency, tax reform and improvements in the entitlement program. He has testified at congressional hearings and been interviewed by news organizations around the country. Bixby has appeared on ABC, NBC, CBS, PBS, CNN and Fox News.

He and The Concord Coalition’s “Fiscal Wake-Up Tour” were also featured prominently in the critically-acclaimed documentary film “I.O.U.S.A.”
