WASHINGTON – The Concord Coalition announced today that
former Senator Bob Kerrey (D-NE) has been
named its new Co-Chairman, joining former Senator
Warren B. Rudman (R-NH).  Senator Kerrey
has been a member of Concord’s Board of Directors since January 2001.

The Concord Coalition was founded in 1992 with Senator
Rudman and the late Senator Paul
Tsongas
(D-MA) as founding Co-Chairmen, and former Commerce Secretary
Peter G. Peterson as President.  Concord
Coalition Board member and former Senator Sam
Nunn
(D-GA) served as Co-Chairman from 1997 through 2001.

Currently the President of New School University in New
York City, Senator Kerrey previously served his home state of Nebraska as
Governor from 1983-87 and as U.S. Senator for two terms, from 1989 to 2001.

In Congress, Senator Kerrey served on several
congressionally chartered commissions, including the Kerrey-Danforth Bipartisan
Commission on Entitlement and Tax Reform, and the Breaux-Thomas National
Bipartisan Commission on the Future of Medicare.  The findings and final report
of the Kerrey-Danforth Commission, released in January 1995, are often cited by
economic experts and national leaders as the definitive analysis of the nation’s
entitlement system and a turning point in the debate on entitlement reform.

“Bob Kerrey is someone who understands the depth of the
problems facing Social Security and Medicare and has the courage to prescribe
the tough medicine necessary to create a strong economic future for all
generations,” said

Concord Co-Chair Warren Rudman
in welcoming Senator Kerrey as his new
Co-Chairman.

“I served with Bob Kerrey on the Kerrey-Danforth Commission
and I can tell you that he has an unwavering commitment to fiscal responsibility
and generationally responsible entitlement reform.  He is an influential leader
who isn’t afraid to make the tough choices needed to ensure that future
generations enjoy economic prosperity, ” added

Concord President Peter G. Peterson
.

The Concord
Coalition is a nonpartisan, grass roots organization dedicated to balanced
federal budgets and generationally responsible fiscal policy.
