Off market, east of Iowa River on T. Anne Cleary walkway
The University of Iowa Tippie College of Business hosts the Fiscal Solutions Tour.
The expert panelists listed below will help Iowans think constructively about how to build a stronger economic future by meeting the challenges of unsustainable budget policies, escalating health care costs, spiraling debt, low savings rates, and the growing needs of an aging population:
- Bob Bixby, executive director -- The Concord Coalition
- Alice Rivlin, founding director -- Congressional Budget Office, senior scholar -- Brookings Institution
- James Capretta, fellow - Ethics and Public Policy Center
Cutting through the usual partisan rhetoric, ideological divides and political smoke screens, the Fiscal Solutions Tour will focus on the positive: Where do we go from here? What key decisions need to be made in the not-too-distant future? How can reforms lead to a brighter future?
Topics discussed will include: how can we reform our tax system to broaden the base, lower income tax rates and grow our economy?; how can our health care system provide higher value care in a more efficient and cost-effective way?; what modest adjustments can be made to the Social Security program to ensure its long-term solvency and its ability to serve as a financial foundation for millions of retirees, survivors, and disabled workers now and for years to come?; can our defense and homeland security programs provide safety for our nation in a more efficient manner?
RSVP's requested (click on blue "RSVP" link on right side of this screen).
This event is free and open to the public. Faculty, community leaders, and business professionals are encouraged to attend.
It also provides an excellent opportunity for UI students (and our nation's future leaders) to interact with national budget experts and engage themselves in possible solutions to improve our long-term economic outlook.
Parking is available at the IMU parking garage, the North Campus Ramp, and under the Pappajohn building.
