Janet Ryan spoke with the junior and senior high school classes at Heritage Christian School in Bozemen MT, about federal government budget deficits and how they will affect the economy for their generation.
Post Event Summary:
Many students were surprised with the levels of spending in some categories and right on target with their knowledge of others. They discussed the negative impact that too much governement spending and borrowing could have on their quality of life and what they can do about it.
Using the Concord Coalition's Penny Game, students worked in groups to learn where the federal government spends the money it collects in taxes; how much money was borrowed and spent, in addition to the taxes collected, in the last fiscal year; and what levels of tax collection, spending and borrowing is expected for the future.
