Communications Director

Biography

Steve Winn is the communications director for The Concord Coalition, a nonpartisan organization dedicated to fiscal responsibility. Concord was founded in 1992 by former U.S. Senators Warren Rudman (R-NH) and the late Paul Tsongas (D-MA). Former Senator Bob Kerrey (D-NE) now serves as co-chair of the organization.

Mr. Winn, who recently joined Concord, handles media and communication issues and is involved with several of the organization's grassroots programs around the country. He also teaches courses on the media, politics and American society at Baker University’s School of Professional and Graduate Studies in the Kansas City area.

Mr. Winn previously worked at The Kansas City Star, where he served for many years as the deputy editorial page editor. He frequently wrote editorials and columns about national politics, the federal government's fiscal difficulties and the need for entitlement and health care reform. Before joining the newspaper's editorial board, he held several reporting and editing positions.

Mr. Winn has a master's degree in liberal arts from Baker University and a bachelor's degree in journalism from Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois.
